New York Cares meets pressing community needs by mobilizing caring New Yorkers in volunteer service. Web site: www.nycares.org.

Calvary Hospital Hospice Program seeks interested and compassionate individuals willing to volunteer their time in their own communities, for example, by making home visits to patients, offering companionship, emotional support or respite care for patient or family. Catholic Big Sisters Big Brothers looks for volunteers willing to make a difference in a young person's life. Web site: www.cbsbb.org.

Union Settlement/OASIS Intergenerational Tutoring wants you to become a tutor, mentor and friend to a child by sharing your love of reading. 1775 3rd Ave (98th Street); 646 672-5044. Web site: www.unionsettlement.org.

Girls Mentoring Program of the Little Sisters of the Assumption Family Health Service for professional women who can volunteer four hours a month with at-risk East Harlem girls in grades 7, 8, or 9. Web site: www.littlesistersfamily.org.

Eucharistic and Pastoral Visiting of the Sick at Mt. Sinai Hospital for a few hours one day a week. Call the Chaplain's Office 347 714-3448. (July, 2013 the chaplain is Sr. Nadine Koza.)
